The Good WoMen of ChiNa

Every now and then, we'll come across a book that once started, we just couldn't put it down. Such a book is so compelling that we'll be totally immersed in it, having deep empathy with the character feelings. It might even have a profound impact on us. I've came across such a book and it remains my FAVOURITE book of all time!!

The Good Women of China which is a compilation of real-life stories of women in China during the Cultural Revolution era was put together by Xinran who is a famous radio presenter through her show, Words on the Night Breeze in China from 1989-1997 before she moved to London. During her 8 years with the show, she has interviewed countless Chinese women. This book enlightened us on the lives of Chinese women especially during the Cultural Revolution Era. Some stories are so touching that I couldn't hold my tears back and reminds me to be grateful for all that I have.

One of the most touching stories is on Mothers who have endured the 1976 TangShan's earthquake. These amazing women who's lost their loved one during the earthquake set up an orphanage for children who've lost their parents. It's so heart-wrenching as they relived their stories. Another stories is on a woman who've waited 45years till she met her lover again only to find out that he's already married to another woman. All these stories will make a blockbuster movie but they are all actually TrUe Life stories.

After receiving overwhelming response from mothers who adopt Chinese children and Chinese women, the author has set up a charity The Mother's Bridge of Love to help women and children living in China. Check this out: www.motherbridge.org
